St. Katherine’s Sixth Form Centre

Making the right choice and planning ahead in Year 11 can be very daunting, albeit an exciting time in a student’s life. For many there is the attraction of work, income and becoming an independent person. The reality for everyone is that we are becoming better qualified as a nation and therefore the need for recognised qualifications and enhanced life skills has never been greater.

St. Katherine’s Sixth Form offers a broad range of opportunities within an environment which is supportive without being restrictive. Students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their decisions and actions, preparing them for the world of work or further education. We have close links with the University of Bristol and University of Bath, and with Weston College which offers opportunities in Foundation Studies.

The introduction of the Diploma in Hospitality is the latest of the curriculum developments. This advanced qualification complements our extensive choice of AS and A2 Levels; Applied A level Courses; BTEC – National and First levels; Applied GCSEs in vocational subjects and GCSE retake courses.

St. Katherine’s Sixth Form has a proven track record of achievement with our latest cohort achieving the best ever results placing us in the top two schools for achievement in North Somerset. 97% of our students passed their courses with 67% achieving A, B and C grades.

St. Katherine’s Sixth Form is able to offer much more than pure academic study. Our elective programme allows students to develop new interests; whilst initiatives such as Community Sports Leader Award, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Youth in Action, debating, and in-class support allow students to broaden their experiences, develop lifelong skills and gain confidence. The social life in the sixth form is vibrant with regular social events as well as links overseas with Argentina. We continue to develop our extracurricular opportunities with sports teams.

St. Katherine’s Sixth form achieves a high standard of success and we pride ourselves on having a personal approach to all students. The environment within the Sixth Form is one of respect, understanding, and inclusion. We recognise that Post-16 study is an essential part of a student’s progress and we provide the learning and environment for every student to maximise their potential.

Please take time to talk to teachers, current students and parents. Enclosed are details about the courses and an application form. Details can also be accessed on the school website. I look forward to discussing your options with you so that we can, together, make the most informed and considered choice for next year.
