We are marking World Mental Health Day on Wednesday 10 October by supporting the Young Minds charity’s #HelloYellow Day.
Young Minds campaign for and provide services for young people’s mental health and pupils accessorised their uniform with something yellow for a £1 donation to Young Minds.
St Katherine’s is committed to supporting positive mental health and breaking down the stigma that can surround it, especially amongst young people. Our Sixth Form students hosted assemblies for the rest of the school about mental health awareness in particular Mollie Hayward, who has been the driving force behind #HelloYellow Day at St Katherine’s. Mollie said:
“1 in 10 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder – that’s roughly 3 children in every classroom! This is an absolutely shocking figure that myself and the rest of sixth form want to start making a change against. By talking to the rest of the school about the charity Young Minds and their amazing projects we hope to raise awareness surrounding mental health issues and open up conversations about student wellbeing. By wearing yellow on the 10th October we are hoping to raise money in order to allow Young Minds to carry on doing what they’re doing in supporting and empowering young people!”
